#selfcaresunday – September 2016

The #selfcaresunday theme for September was ‘Time Out’.

Week 1 – #lockthedoor

bathtub-890561_1280We have always had an open policy in the bathroom since the kids were born. I started because it was the only way I could take a shower with babies & toddlers at home. If they knew they could come and see me they were content. This means I have basically spent 8 years with “company” when I shower or go to the toilet. Even if I shut the door they still come in. Now they are older I think it might be time to #lockthedoor

You might choose to:

  • take a long bath
  • wash your hair without also singing “Twinkle Twinkle”
  • paint your nails

One of my favourite ways to create #timeout is to trade time with another Mum. It is simple, free and you both gain from it.

Simply make the offer to trade time looking after each others children to create #timeout for each other.

It might be for 30 minutes, an hour or a whole afternoon!

coffeeWeek 3 – #solocoffee

When was the last time you sat quietly, alone in a cafe, and enjoyed a coffee? It is very rare in my world.
Earlier this week I had a very chaotic morning – needing to drop 3 kids in 3 different places, drop my car off for a service … all before 9am!
Although I had lots of work to do I decided to stop at a local cafe, sit in the sunshine, and enjoy that coffee you can see. It was 15 minutes of bliss!

readingWeek 4 – #sneakyread

When was the last time you curled up with a good book or a magazine … even just for 5 minutes?
I have always loved to read but I often go for months without actually doing it. I get caught up in the ‘busyness’ of life.
When I need to reset my reading habits I might:

  • head to bed early instead of watching TV and read a chapter of a book.
  • take my book out to the washing line. The kids think I am hanging out the washing (which I do) but then I stay out another 5-10minutes to read … the kids rarely come looking
  • take a book in the car and read for a few minutes if I am early for school pick up

#selfcaresunday has been created to inspire you to take 5 minutes each Sunday to care for yourself.  You can signup for the weekly emails HERE but I will also publish a month “review” blog post to ensure you can always find this inspiration again.
