The team at Her Collective have just published an article I wrote for them called ‘Let my child fall’. It is all about the differences the kids and I are experiencing since moving to Waiheke Island in terms of what they are allowed to do at school.
We are so in love with the freedom and independence that is encouraged here.
My 7 year old daughter can climb trees at school … I LOVE that! No way would she have been able to do that in Sydney. I was helping with reading in her classroom last week. Two kids in her class have freshly broken arms & both of them broke their arms taking a fall off the school play equipment. What I love is that nobody is up in arms about this, parents are not calling for the equipment to be taken away … it is accepted that if kids are allowed to play freely, explore their limits, be challenged and excited in their play then some kids are going to get hurt. Grazed knees, a broken arm or a bump on the head.
If you would like to read the full post you can find it HERE … I really hope you enjoy.
