Keeping my sanity in the house of never ending illness

One of the first signs I am not getting enough time and space for myself is when I start raising my voice with the kids … and often. In the past few days I have noticed this creeping in.

It is hardly surprising. For about 2 weeks now our house has been consumed by a nasty cold/flu bug that has hit us all in different ways. At least 3 people have been sick at an time, I have now been sick for 10 days, and we just can’t shake it off. Kids have been pretty unhappy, not sleeping well and starting to fight with each other.

Over the past 2 weeks I haven’t been for a single run or gone to any yoga classes. Oh, and my husband is overseas so I have no chance to even take a walk alone for the next few days. The lack of personal space is starting to create a feeling of tension that I struggle to let go of.

The solution … surrender and use meditation to calm my mind.

I can’t change anything right now. I can either struggle with this or surrender. Meditation is the thing I find helps me surrender the best at times like this.

I confess I am an ‘ad hoc’ meditator. It comes and goes in my life … but hey, being ad hoc is better than not doing it at all.

Luckily for me this week I have recently finished creating a Mini Meditation Series for Mums. I put together 5 great meditations from a range of experts, who also happen to be Mums. I have included some of my own too! The meditations last between 1minute and 12 minutes so there is always something in there that works for me.

If you are having a tough week and struggling to keep your sanity I invite you to try these out too!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been unwell.
I had a horrible cold a fortnight ago and decided that rather than fight it I’d relax. It was the best thing I did. No gym for 2 weeks but I’m now back. I hope it won’t be too much longer for you.

    1. thank you for your kind wishes Kara … sorry for my slow reply, replying to comments on my blog obviously something that slipped through the gaps while we were all unwell!
Great to hear you listened to your body and allowed it to rest and get well!
We are all well again and enjoying the start of Spring x
